I had the honor of photographing this beautiful woman last week- Carol Garlow, beloved wife of Dr. Jim Garlow- my pastor for over 15 years. It’s taken me all morning to create this post… simply because there is just so much to be said about this couple, their ministry, their marriage, their faith, their love. Carol was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, and they have been battling fiercely for the last 4 years, through a lot of ups and downs. You can read about their entire journey here. Carol underwent surgery this morning to remove 35% of her liver, and the cancer that was consuming it. She came through surgery great, and we cannot wait to see the rest of the miracles yet to happen, as Jim says, “in our soon-to-be victorious battle with cancer.” Please continue to pray for this incredible woman, and her equally amazing husband Jim.
As you can see, this shoot was something a little different for me… the white backdrop and studio lights set-up in their home… but I had a lot of fun with it. Carol is a great model. :)
Every time I hear Jim talk about his bride, he proudly exclaims how madly in love with her he is… even after 40 (great) years.
Here’s where she starts to get spunky! Hehe…
I love her joy for life.
At this point, I instructed Carol to write something sentimental on the chalkboard for a few pictures… for example, “I am a mother,” or “I am a wife,” or “I am a believer.” I had a whole series of images in mind. Carol wrote: “I am dancing.” This is quite possibly the best depiction of her character ever. She is so positive and joyful! And that’s all she wanted to write. One frame:
I AM DANCING. :)
Love these two… the strongest, most incredible married couple I’ve ever known.
He adores her so much…
Jim joins in on Carol’s “dancing!”
And my favorite image of all… this is how we ended the night. Jim wrapped up his bride in a wonderful, loving embrace… I think he could have held her there all night. It was a beautiful moment, and I’m honored to have captured it. Jim and Carol, we continue to pray for God’s miracle and cannot wait to see what he has in store for you… including the next 40 years.
You are loved.
